{ Challenge }
EMMA Dataport was 10+ years old and clearly needed a makeover as well as a technology refresh.
The dataport lacked consistency and continuity in design from public portal.
Submission data collected over the last decade highlighted data quality issues caused by users' lack of understanding of the categories as well the poor UI allowing them to make mistakes.
{ Discovery }
Identified internal and external users
For the external users' group- we reached out to not only those who were very generous with their candid feedback but also those who were using the system extensively and had in-depth knowledge of the data and the expected outcomes when using the tools on EMMA.
User groups representing both internal and external users were formed. These groups were reached out to throughout the project life-cycle for their feedback.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research
I collected and categorized feedback from the user research, product support team, helped identify the shortcomings and pain points in the current system.
I used quantitative research methods using google analytics and submission data using data from the last 10 years of submissions.
Critical findings
-
Confusing submission flow
-
Lack of trust in data
-
Archaic document upload
-
Difficult to navigate between public portal and dataport
